- <p> Slathering on a coat of wet river mud felt good at first.
- Then Grace Jones had to spend half a day in the stuff. "When
- it dries, it starts to crack," says the punk diva, "and it gets
- a little cold." In Requiem for the Americas, a new album and
- video out this month that celebrate Native Americans, the
- earth-covered performer blends with a primordial landscape.
- During the taping, Jones decided "it was better not to wear
- anything at all" over the mud. Clothing, she reasoned, might
- have got stuck to it and pulled the fine hairs on her body.
